Name

Gone below the surface

After a tree comes down, the stump does not have to stay. We grind it several inches below grade so it is out of sight and out of the way, leaving a clean spot to fill, sod, or plant.

Grinding is faster and far less disruptive than digging a stump out by the roots, and it does not tear up your whole yard in the process.

We could not be more impressed with this tree company! From start to finish, they were an absolute pleasure to work with. Communication was excellent, they arrived right on time, and they delivered exactly what we asked for. They even went above and beyond by removing and cleaning up some old, large stumps we had. As a bird enthusiast, I was especially touched by the care and respect they showed around the large natural nesting area on our property. They took the extra time and had incredible patience while carefully working around the nests and eggs, making sure the birds and their habitat remained safe and undisturbed. This was incredibly meaningful to me, and I cannot express how appreciative I am of their thoughtfulness and compassion. The area was extremely difficult to access, but they handled everything with incredible skill and professionalism. They left the property clean and tidy, and the results exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend them!

We loved the service! Michael did an amazing job, very professional, no damages, but also they were available within just a couple of days and I needed that tree to be removed urgently. They cleaned everything after the job and my grass was not harmed! And I even have a nice fire tip table made from the tree log - they helped to cut it flat and transfer it to its place :)) Overall, thank you!

Frequently asked questions

How deep do you grind the stump?

Typically six to ten inches below grade, which is enough to plant grass over and get a mower across without hitting anything. If you are planning to put a new tree, a fence post or anything with footings in the same spot, tell us and we will go deeper. Say what the ground is going to be used for and we will grind to suit.

Do you grind the surface roots too?

Yes, the ones running out from the stump that would otherwise be left humping up through your lawn. There is a practical limit though. Roots run a long way out from a mature tree and chasing every one of them across the yard costs more than it is worth, so we take out what actually causes problems.

Do you do stump grinding on its own, or only with a removal?

We do it as part of a removal, which is where it makes sense for everyone. As a standalone job it is often an hour’s drive each way to grind one stump, and the trip is most of the cost. If you have several stumps together, or one we can pick up alongside other work in your area, call and ask. Straight answer either way.

What happens to all the grindings?

Your choice. Most people have us backfill the hole with the chips and take the surplus away, which settles over a few months. If you want the chips gone entirely and clean soil in the hole, we can do that too, and it costs a little more. If you want the whole pile left for mulch, say so.

Can I plant grass or a new tree where the stump was?

Grass, yes, once the hole is backfilled and topped with soil, though expect it to settle and need topping up. A new tree in exactly the same spot is harder, because the ground is full of decomposing wood chips that tie up nitrogen as they break down. Better to grind deep, dig the chips out and bring in soil, or plant a few feet to one side.

Will grinding damage my irrigation or utilities?

It can, which is why we ask before we start. Mark any sprinkler lines, low-voltage lighting, invisible fence or septic lines near the stump and we will work around them. For anything buried and unmarked, call 811 first. A grinder does not know what it is hitting until it has hit it.

How long does a stump take?

Most residential stumps are done inside an hour once the machine is in position. The bigger variable is access, because getting a grinder through a narrow gate or around a house takes longer than the grinding itself. Large multi-stem stumps and old hardwood butts can take considerably longer.
